Grief and Loss

To be a human means that we will experience loss at some point throughout the course of our lives. Grief is a testament to the emotional connection we felt, and continue to feel, for whoever or whatever it is that we have lost. Have you found yourself isolating from loved ones and friends due to your grief going unrecognized? Do you feel disconnected and frustrated with yourself and that you should just “be over it” by now? Do you feel as if life goals and values that you once had now feel distant and unimportant?

I specialize in working with grief due to the loss of a loved one. There is no immediate solution to grief, but rather a process working with our capacity to carry it over time. The experience of immediate and recent loss can be extremely disorienting and isolating as we attempt to adjust to life without our loved one. Using insight-oriented therapy and concepts of mindfulness, I work with you to genuinely understand the person that has been lost, as well as the meaning and significance of your relationship with them. This understanding is essential toward integrating this profound experience, to help you find yourself amidst this loss, and then carry it with you as you move forward in life.

Miscarriage

Have you found yourself feeling numb, intensely upset, and isolated after experiencing a miscarriage? Are you feeling fearful to share your loss with others due to societal discomfort on the topic? As common as miscarriages are, they often go unrecognized, which can leave us without critical support and add to the intensity of the loss. This can result in feeling weighed down by the often-traumatic experience of miscarriage along with the grief that ensues. Using concepts of insight-oriented therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness and somatic techniques when appropriate, I work with you to find your individual way to grieve and process this loss, as well as identify and integrate self-care practices to support you through this difficult journey.

Anxiety in the Mind and Body

Do you find it difficult to relax and feel as if your mind is constantly running? Are you overthinking, fixating on worst-case scenarios, and waiting for the other shoe to drop? Anxiety can present not only as anxious thoughts but also as an intense physical experience - sometimes one we are not fully aware of. Additionally, it can manifest in such ways as fear around the safety and well-being of yourself and loved ones, fear around physical health issues, and fear around how others perceive us. With busy schedules and various stressors in our modern lives, our mind and body are finding it challenging to shift into a regulated state where we feel calm and grounded. Anxiety can be debilitating, our body stressed and exhausted but our mind unable to quiet. Using the approaches of Insight-Oriented Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and somatic techniques when appropriate, I work with you to identify and explore the root causes of your anxiety as well as develop coping skills to manage it.
